DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, reage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see the blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying fo the light.

Analysis

The poem is about getting old. Author used simile, metaphor, and personification an example would be "clothes of day." The poem had a 5 stanzas with 3 lines. The last stanza has 4 lines. The 1st and 3rd lines rhyme. The second lines in each stanza rhyme. An example would be "Night and Light." The speaker of the poem is a son talking to his father. The shift occurs on the line "And you, my father." Angry/desperate is the tone of the poem.

Reflection

My portfolio is quite a reflection of me indeed. Its got humor, what I like to eat, and my favorite sport. I think my favorite poem was the Imitation poem because it was a funny poem that rhymed. It was easy to imitate because every two lines rhyme, but started with "We". My favorite kind of poetry is just stuff that comes off at the top of my head. Also the ones that have no certain directions. The thing that I learned about poetry to say whats in your head. Also I learned that its not rocket science when it comes to writing poetry. Except for all the terms those are confusing, but don't take much to learn them. I think my portfolio portrays the message that just have fun with poetry. Just have fun doing it, and it will just come to you.

Art Response Poem

I hear something huge
Rumbling, tumbling, vibrations are coming
People screaming
People cheering
Wonder what they are seeing
Wonder if it is worth seeing
What could it be?
I wish I could see
I guess I will never know.

Manipulative Poem

Why waste your time observing
When you could be performing
What is a symbol?
A monument
A figure
A blank canvas to paint
What will you paint next
It's up to you to choose
